At the June meeting of the Canyon Lake City Council, 12-year-old Hank Hauger was recognized as Citizen of the Month for his character and responsible actions, both as a student and as a young community member.
Hauger, a sixth-grade high honor roll student at Canyon Lake Middle School, was honored for assisting a young girl in distress after she crashed her e-bike and ensuring she returned home safely.
On the way home from school, Hauger witnessed a girl crash her e-bike and immediately stepped in to help. Not only did he assist her in the moment, but he also chose to follow her home to make sure she was safe and okay.
Hauger’s thoughtful actions did not go unnoticed and were celebrated by city officials as an example of compassion and civic responsibility.
Hauger was also recognized for being a model e-bike rider. Through the Canyon Lake Property Association’s E-bike Rewards Program, Hauger received vouchers on five separate occasions for following safe e-bike practices. The program rewards youth who demonstrate proper riding behavior, helping to promote a safer and more respectful community environment. The vouchers awarded can be turned in at the POA for gift cards to places like Jack-in-the-Box, Canyon Lake Market, and Starbucks.
Hauger was also praised for his honor roll status as a student, noting that he sets a shining example for other young residents.
Hauger’s commendation is a reminder of the positive impact youth can have when they lead with empathy and responsibility.
The Canyon Lake Citizen of the Month initiative was created in January 2021 to honor Canyon Lake residents for their service to the community. Each Citizen of the Month is recognized at a city council meeting and presented with a certificate. Community members are encouraged to nominate Citizens of the Month by submitting their names and a short paragraph detailing their good work to [email protected]. Residents of all ages are eligible to be nominated for this award.
