Canyon Lake city manager placed on leave

Canyon Lake City Manager Nicole Dailey has been placed on administrative leave, city officials confirmed today.

City officials would not comment on why Dailey was placed on administrative leave. “It is the city policy to not comment on personnel issues,” Mayor Dale Welty said. Dailey declined to comment.

In February 2023, the council approved a contract agreement with Dailey to replace Chris Mann, who left Canyon Lake for a city manager position with the City of Yucaipa. The terms of the agreement is for three years, until February 2026, with a base salary of $200,000 per year.

Dailey assumed her role as city manager on March 1, 2023. Prior to her employment with the city, Dailey served as the deputy city manager for the City of Lake Elsinore.

In Dailey’s absence, Administrative Services Director Mike Borja will be serving as acting city manager. Borja has been employed with the city since 2016. He served as acting city manager prior to Mann’s employment in 2019.
