The Canyon Lake Community Gardeners Club has been granted 501(c)3 status from the State of California.
The nonprofit status will allow the club to accept donations that are tax deductible. “This opens doors for our club to pursue a community garden in Canyon Lake,” said club founder Kelly Lopez.
Formed in February 2022, the Community Gardeners Club is a group of Canyon Lake residents who are working toward building a community garden in Canyon Lake. The group meets monthly to learn about gardening techniques and to share information, harvests, and seeds with each other. The club also meets at members’ homes for garden tours throughout the year.
In May, the club was approved by the POA as a sanctioned club. Some of the benefits of being recognized as a sanctioned club include discounted use of POA facilities and common areas, discounted menu items for club banquets, use of certain POA equipment for sanctioned club functions, advertisements for club functions and upcoming events, and club information and contact listing on the POA website.
Next month, club members will meet on Thursday, July 21, at 7 p.m. at Holiday Harbor Park to learn about composting. The meetings are open to all community members.
