Earlier this morning, a residential fire in Canyon Lake was swiftly extinguished with garden hoses with the help of Councilman Jeremy Smith and several neighbors.

While on his way back from the gym, Councilman Jeremy Smith noticed black smoke coming from the garage of a residence in the 30600 block of Long Point Dr. Smith, along with three neighbors, including an off-duty Big Bear battalion chief, took action.

Utilizing garden hoses, the good samaritans managed to control the fire before the fire department arrived on the scene.

The estimated damage to the contents in the garage is $10,000, according to Canyon Lake Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse.

The cause is still under investigation but is believed to be accidental. No injuries were reported.
