Longtime Canyon Lake residents Joy and Chuck Call recently celebrated their 61st anniversary. They were married on December 26, 1959, in Joy’s hometown of McLeansboro, Illinois.
After their wedding, Joy and Chuck returned to Columbus, Ohio, where Chuck finished two more years of studying engineering at Ohio State University while Joy worked as a secretary in the university’s administration offices.
In 1961, after Chuck’s graduation, the couple relocated to California where Chuck began his career as an aerospace engineer at North American Aviation in Anaheim and Joy worked as an executive secretary.
The Calls spent much of their marriage traveling across the U.S. in an RV. In 2000, they settled down in Canyon Lake where they enjoy traveling with other members of the Canyon Lake Roadrunners Club. Chuck currently serves as the club’s trail boss. Joy is a member of the Canyon Lake Garden Club.
The Calls have one son, Alan Call of Menifee, one daughter, Cindy O’Neal of Bend, Oregon, and four grandchildren, Brodie and Taylor Call and Chip and Nathan O’Neal.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the couple had to cancel an anniversary cruise they had scheduled earlier this year. Instead, the couple spent a quiet evening at home watching movies.
