On Sunday, October 4, at 3:59 p.m., Cal Fire and Canyon Lake deputies responded to the north area of Canyon Lake for a report of a drowning.

Eyewitnesses stated the victim, a resident of the Los Angeles area, swam out to the middle of the lake from the north shore, an area that is not within the city limits of Canyon Lake. The victim appeared to be in distress and submerged underwater. Individuals in the area began searching for the victim but were unable to locate him.

A sheriff’s helicopter was called to aid in the effort, but to the water conditions, the victim was not located. The Riverside County Underwater Search and Rescue team responded to the location to assist in the search. The victim was located submerged under the water shortly before 10 p.m.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau responded to the location to assist in the investigation. The victim’s name will be released by the Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau after notification to the family.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Deputy Tilley at the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station at 951-245-3300.
