Deputies screened 1008 vehicles during a DUI Checkpoint conducted on Friday, March 22, in the City of Canyon Lake.

Conducted by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Lake Elsinore Station, the checkpoint yielded two driving under the influence arrests, one vehicle pursuit resulting in arrest, 22 citations for unlicensed/suspended drivers, and one misdemeanor arrest warrant served. Ten vehicles were towed.

The checkpoint was held at Railroad Canyon Road and Sorrell Lane between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Funding is provided by a $34,358.00 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to support ongoing enforcement and education programs to help reduce the number of serious injuries and deaths on roads in the City of Canyon Lake.

A saturation patrol on December 8, 2023, resulted in four driving under the influence arrests. During the December 2023 meeting of the Canyon Lake City Council, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced plans for three additional saturation patrols, which occur before the grant expires on September 30, 2024. Advance notice is not required for saturation patrols.
