Canyon Lake fire chief presents department report for January

During the February 12 meeting of the Canyon Lake City Council, Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse presented the Canyon Lake Fire Department’s report for January.

The department responded to 107 calls in January: six fire responses, 53 rescue/EMS incidents, 18 service calls, 22 good intent calls, one hazardous condition, six false alarms/false calls, and one call not reported.

The six fire responses include a warming fire on January 1 at Lassen Drive and Vacation Drive, a chimney fire on January 9 in the 22000 block of Bronc Court, a cooking fire on January 24 in the 29900 block of Clear Water Drive, a spa electrical fire on January 25 in the 24300 block of Cruise Circle Drive, a chimney fire on January 25 in the 30100 block of Lands End Place, and a power pole fire on Railroad Canyon Road.

The average dispatch to en route response time was 0.35 minutes, en route to arrival time was 5.10 minutes, and dispatch to arrival time was 5.45 minutes. These times represent the average of all CODE 3 EMS responses in the city. They do not include auto/mutual aid incidents.

The 90 percent fractile dispatch to en route response time was 1 minute, en route to arrival time was 7.08 minutes, and dispatch to arrival time was 8.47 minutes.

Riverside County/Cal Fire responded to 13 incidents in the City of Canyon Lake. Canyon Lake engines responded to six incidents outside the city. They include four in Lake Elsinore, two in Meadowbrook, and one in Los Angeles County.

From January 8 through January 13, a Canyon Lake crew of three responded to Los Angeles County fires.

The department logged 177.02 hours of training in January. Training included hazardous materials training, RHearT medical training, rope rescue training, tablet command training, simulation on commercial fires, hose pulls and drop points, staffing program training, and forcible entry training.
