Canyon Lake fire chief presents department statistics for December

On January 10, Canyon Lake Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse updated the public with the department’s monthly reports for December 2023.

Station 1 responded to 99 calls in December. They include two fire responses, 59 rescue/EMS incidents, 12 service calls, 19 good intent calls, one hazardous condition, one severe weather, and five false alarms.

Fire responses include a water heater fire on December 19 in the 29000 block of Fisherman Court and a vehicle electrical wiring fire on December 30 in the 31000 block of Railroad Canyon Road.

The average dispatch to en route response time was 0.49 minutes, en route to arrival time was 5.04 minutes, and dispatch to arrival time was 5.53 minutes. These times represent the average of all CODE 3 EMS responses in the city. They do not include auto/mutual aid incidents.

The 90 percent fractile dispatch to en route response time was 1.24 minutes, en route to arrival time was 6.32 minutes, and dispatch to arrival time was 8.06 minutes.

Riverside County/Cal Fire responded to the City of Canyon Lake nine times during the month of December. In 2023, Riverside County/Cal Fire responded to the City of Canyon Lake for 98 incidents.

Canyon Lake engines responded to 19 incidents outside the city in December. They include 15 in the City of Lake Elsinore, three in the City of Menifee, and one in Good Hope. In 2023, the Canyon Lake Fire Department responded to 179 incidents outside the city.

A Shift trained 27 hours in December. B Shift trained 31 hours. C Shift trained 33 hours. Training in December focused on hose evolutions, host and ladder testing, low-angle rope rescue, fire prevention/inspections, workers’ compensation, EMS, and live fire training at Ben Clark.

Community outreach and education included the Spark of Love Toy Drive, City of Canyon Lake Winter Wonderland, Golf Cart Parade, Donuts with Santa, job fair at Crafton Hills College, and department and city Christmas parties.
