Canyon Lake fire chief presents department statistics for February

On March 13, Canyon Lake Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse updated the public with the department’s statistics for the month of February.

Station 1 had 67 responses in February. They include one structure fire, 47 rescue/EMS incidents, one hazardous condition, eight service calls, six good intent calls, and four false alarms.

Firefighters responded to a structure fire on February 1 in the 22600 block of Pin Tail Dr. Hot material discarded into a trash container caused the fire. The flames and heat were confined to the garage.

The average dispatch to en route response time was 0.49 minutes, en route to arrival time was 5.19 minutes, and dispatch to arrival time was 6.07 minutes. These times represent the average of all CODE 3 EMS responses in the city. They do not include auto/mutual aid incidents.

The 90 percent fractile dispatch to en route response time was 1.19 minutes, en route to arrival time was 7.02 minutes, and dispatch to arrival time was 8.10 minutes.

Riverside County/Cal Fire responded to the City of Canyon Lake 10 times in February. Canyon Lake engines responded to five incidents outside of the city. They include four in the City of Lake Elsinore and one in the City of Menifee.

A Shift trained 30 hours, B Shift trained 38 hours, and C Shift trained 38 hours.

Training in February focused on personal protection clothing, child abuse recognition/notification, forcible entry, ladder evolutions, firefighter orientation, hose evolutions/management, and RhearT training. The Corona Fire Department assisted with ventilation training.

Community education and involvement included a presentation on fire and safety exit at the Senior Center, a heart and stroke presentation at the Woman’s Club meeting, a home fire safety at a Neighborhood Watch meeting, and a Stop the Bleed presentation at the Emergency Preparedness Committee meeting.
