Following the retirement of Battalion Chief Michael Samuels on July 13, the Canyon Lake Fire Department has updated its staffing.
Captain Brennian Gorter is now serving as the acting battalion chief. In 2022, Gorter was presented with the department’s Firefighter of the Year Award.
Engineer Humberto “Chico” Sanchez is serving as the acting captain for A shift. Both Gorter and Sanchez have been with the department since its launch on January 1, 2022.
To fill Sanchez’s position, the department has hired Vincent Valdivia as a limited-term engineer.
The replacement process is ongoing, according to Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse.
