In celebration of Read Across America Day, the Canyon Lake Fire Department read their favorite children’s book to the children at Canyon Lake Community Church Preschool.

Giggles filled the room as Captain Tim O’Marra read Sparky the Fire Dog aloud. Following storytime, Firefighter/Paramedic Ryan Moore demonstrated how to put on his personal protective equipment.

The visit concluded with big smiles as the children received “Junior Firefighter” helmets, bracelets, and stickers and got a closer look at the fire engine.

“The power of reading and the knowledge that’s gained, what a privilege to be influential in fostering a love for reading,” Engineer/Paramedic Nate Garcia said.

Read Across America Day was established in 1998 by the National Education Association to help get kids excited about reading. It calls upon everyone to read and engage with children to make reading a more fun and interactive experience.

The Canyon Lake Fire Department expressed its appreciation to all educators who continue to inspire the next generation.
