The boat rental docks at the lodge are named in honor of Shirley Engler, a longtime resident who was one of the first members of the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association (POA) and served as a member of the Architectural Control Committee (ACC).
Engler played a pivotal role in developing the procedures for the placement of personal docks on the lake and establishing and serving on the Lakeside Facilities Sub-Committee to assist the ACC in reviewing lakeside and dock matters.
In September 1994, the Canyon Lake POA Board of Directors passed a resolution honoring the late Shirley Engler, recognizing her tireless dedication and contributions to the Canyon Lake community.
“Mrs. Engler’s efforts spanned many hours of service to the POA and her dedication to addressing even the most difficult and complicated issues contributed to fair and equitable consideration for all members,” reads the resolution passed by the directors. “The Canyon Lake Property Owners Association and its members have greatly benefited as a result of her wealth of knowledge and years of faithful volunteer service,” it continued.
Today, Engler’s legacy continues to live on at the water’s edge. The sign at the entrance to the lakeside docks reads, “Engler’s Landing,” a permanent reminder of her invaluable service and the deep respect she earned among residents and POA leadership alike.
