At the entrance of the Eastport launch ramp dock, a plaque is displayed in tribute to Jess Haxton, a beloved Canyon Lake resident who passed away on Easter Sunday in 2002 at the age of 93. The plaque commemorates Haxton’s love for fishing and unwavering volunteer spirit.
Haxton was an avid fisherman and a dedicated volunteer, willing to lend a hand at any community function. Haxton volunteered at Fiesta Day, community chili cook-offs, the Parade of Lights, and the Canyon Lake Community Theatre group.
Haxton had a passion for sharing his love for fishing. He held fishing clinics for many years at the lodge pool, teaching both children and adults the art of fishing. His efforts for the betterment of the lake and fishing conditions helped ensure future generations could enjoy Canyon Lake as he did.
At the recommendation of the Lake and Marina Committee, the POA dedicated the launch ramp in Haxton’s honor. The plaque was dedicated on Saturday, August 10, 2002. Haxton’s family members, including his wife and two daughters, attended the dedication ceremony.
