The Canyon Lake Library wrapped up its very first Kindle Challenge for kids, a new program designed to encourage young readers to dive into books.
The challenge is sponsored by Canyon Lake residents Todd and Lori Stover, who are passionate advocates for literacy in the community.
The challenge invited children 6 through 12 to participate. A total of 39 young readers took part, collectively finishing an impressive 837 books over the course of the program. At the end of the challenge, the winner, Aaron, received a new Kindle tablet.
Building on the success of this inaugural effort, the program is expanding. The next Kindle Challenge will run from September 1 through November 18 and will feature two age categories: 6-12 and 13-18. One winner from each age group will receive a new Kindle tablet. Participants must register through the library and use a special challenge code.
