Canyon Lake mayor, mayor pro tem to attend 2022 SCAG Regional Conference & General Assembly

The Canyon Lake City Council on Wednesday appointed Mayor Jeremy Smith as the delegate and Mayor Pro Tem Larry Greene as the alternate for the upcoming 2022 Annual Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) Regional Conference and General Assembly.

The SCAG Regional Conference and General Assembly will be held May 5 and May 6 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs in Palm Desert. SCAG requests that each member city appoint a delegate and alternate to vote at this Assembly. Delegates will have the opportunity to consider and take action on proposed resolutions and SCAG bylaw revisions that have been submitted and reviewed in accordance with SCAG policies.

SCAG is the largest Council of Governments and Metropolitan Planning Organization in the country. Founded in 1965, SCAG is a Joint Powers Authority under California state law, established as an association of local governments and agencies that voluntarily convene as a forum to address regional issues. Under federal law, SCAG is designated as a Metropolitan Planning Organization and under state law as a Regional Transportation Planning Agency and a Council of Governments.

The SCAG region encompasses six counties (Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura) and 191 cities. The agency develops long-range regional transportation plans, including sustainable communities strategy and growth forecast components, regional transportation improvement programs, regional housing needs allocations, and a portion of the South Coast Air Quality management plans.
