The Canyon Lake POA Board of Directors approved $352,486 in funding for the construction of two additional pickleball courts and $29,800 to resurface the existing four courts.
In 2017, the POA built four lakeside pickleball courts at East Port Park. Since that time, the sport has gained popularity in the community and the Pickleball Club has grown to more than 500 members.
The POA was requested to explore the addition of two pickleball courts that were left out of the original design but planned if the sport became popular.
In November 2021, the board approved $24,400 in funding for design. In August 2022, the board approved an additional $38,600 for the design due to the design process taking longer and costing more than expected because of committee requests, discovered site conditions, and additional post tension slab engineering.
In December 2022, the POA released an RFP. Bids included a bid alternate to resurface the four existing courts since they are worn and due for resurfacing.
The POA received five bids ranging from $345,000 to $556,000. Permit and shade structure to match existing are $7,520 and $9,700, respectively.
The funding for this project includes $332,486 plus a five percent contingency from the CIP fund for the construction of two additional pickleball courts and $29,800 from the Reserve Fund for resurfacing four existing courts.
