The Canyon Lake POA Board has approved updated lighting requirements for e-bikes, bringing the community’s rules into alignment with California law and adding new visibility requirements for e-bike riders.
Under the revised POA rule GR.5.2c, all e-bikes operating on Canyon Lake streets, sidewalks, bikeways, or common areas must have a white headlight visible from 300 feet and turned on from sunset to sunrise. E-bikes must also have a rear red reflector or a solid or flashing red light with a built-in reflector visible from 500 feet at all times.
The fine for violating the new rule is $250.
The updated requirements follow the enactment of California Assembly Bill 544, which established new visibility requirements for electric bicycles, including the rear reflector or red light requirement.
The previous POA rule GR.5.2c required e-bikes operated after sunset or before sunrise to be equipped with illuminated headlights and taillights but did not include the updated rear reflector requirements established by state law.
