Two of the five seats on the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association (POA) are up for election in May 2024. The POA announced the candidacy of Bill Van Vleet and Greg Doherty. Both candidates currently serve on the board and are eligible for another two-year term.

Van Vleet, the current president, and Doherty, the current vice president, are running unopposed.

The Annual Meeting of the Members and Election of Directors will be held on Wednesday, May 15, at 8 a.m. in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge. The meeting will be called to order and polls will close at approximately 9 a.m. If a quorum is not achieved, the alternative date for the meeting is May 17.

In addition to the election of directors, eligible voters will have an opportunity to vote on three ballot measures:

Measure l: IRS Tax Measure

The IRS Revenue Tax Ruling 70-604 allows associations to avoid a tax consequence on any inadvertent excess member income that is applied to the following fiscal year assessment when filing a tax return Federal Form 1120. This IRS Ballot Measure is considered an annual industry standard to allow for clear tax filing authorization should the board decide to apply excess income to the following year’s assessment.

Measure ll: Restrict Future Sales of Common Areas

If approved, this measure would prohibit the board from selling common areas without the approval of the owners, who must constitute a quorum and vote in the majority at a meeting or election conducted in accordance with California law and Canyon Lake POA governing documents. This limitation on the board’s ability to sell common areas does not apply to any real property acquired by CLPOA through foreclosure or satisfaction of any debt.

Measure lll: Board of Directors Terms

If approved, the years for board of directors terms would double, establishing four-year terms with a two-year year waiting period for board members starting from the 2025 Annual Meeting and Election of Director.

The 2024 Inspectors of Elections will be Jeff Price and Hudson Gallaher with HOA Elections of California, Inc. Ballots will be mailed to homeowners on April 1. Ballot counts can be followed online at www.myhoavote.com (select Canyon Lake POA in the community list).
