Canyon Lake pool to offer summer water polo lessons

The Canyon Lake pool will be offering six weeks of water polo lessons beginning on Monday, June 17. Registration opens on Monday, May 13. With only 20 spots available per session, early registration is recommended.

Water polo lessons are for kids aged eight to 15. Participants must be able to swim the full length of the pool (25 yards).

Lessons will be held Monday through Friday from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration for weeks 1 and 2 is $65 per week. For each additional week, the cost is $55.

Week one focuses on fundamental skills such as eggbeater technique, positioning, passing, and shooting. Participants will also learn essential water polo vocabulary.

Week two will build on the basics covered in the first week and focus on teaching different types of passing techniques such as cross face, long/short-range, no look, wet/dry passes, and more.

Week three focuses on teaching different types of shooting techniques such as cross-cage, strong side, wet shots, and shots from set position. Participants will also learn proper shooting form.

Week four focuses on teaching different types of passing techniques such as cross face, long/short-range, no look, wet/dry passes, and more.

Week five focuses on teaching different types of defensive plays and positions to improve the participant’s skills as a defensive player.

Week six focuses on teaching different types of offensive and defensive plays and positions for situations when a team is up/down by one player in the pool. Participants will also learn techniques for taking five-meter penalty shots and how to draw a five-meter penalty during play.
