Canyon Lake resident Tina Visser kicked off 2024 with an unforgettable ride aboard the Lions International “Changing the World Through Music” float at the Tournament of Roses Parade.

Visser secured her coveted spot on the float through a contest sponsored by California Lions, an organization representing 730 clubs and 20,000 members united to support individuals in need in virtually every local community in the state. The Canyon Lake Lions Club won the contest and selected Visser to represent the club on the float.

Visser was accompanied on the float by Lions International President Patti Hill and members from the California and New Mexico chapters.

The experience included Visser participating in decorating the float, attending a New Year’s Eve party, a two-night stay at the DoubleTree Hilton, and transportation to and from the parade to the hotel. “We celebrated New Year’s Eve at 9 p.m. because we had to meet the following day at 4:30 a.m. to go to the parade,” Visser explained.

Visser said one of the best parts of riding on the float was hand-signing parts of the song “Wonderful World World” by Louis Armstrong and seeing so many spectators sign “thank you” back.

For Visser, the opportunity to contribute to the Lion Club mission while creating lasting memories made this New Year’s Day truly exceptional and one she will never forget. “I want to say thank you to the Canyon Lake Lions Club for choosing me to represent our club,” Visser said. “It was an experience that I will always cherish and never forget.”
