Canyon Lake resident Julie Putjenter is gearing up for her second Los Angeles Marathon, set to take place on St. Patrick’s Day.

Alongside fellow Canyon Lake residents Stephanie Bangora, Michael Bangora, and James Proxmire, Putjenter will be racing in the full marathon, covering 26.2 miles.

Stephanie Bangora introduced Putjenter to long-distance running and endurance races. “She’s been a part of my training every step of the way and a huge motivation for me,” Putjenter said.

Since her first marathon in 2023, Putjenter has competed in eight races, four of which were Ultramarathons. These races, along with focusing on strength training and taking care of her body, have prepared her for the upcoming marathon.

Over Memorial weekend, Putjenter and Bangora will be taking on the Nanny Goat, a 24-hour race that takes place on a one-mile dirt loop on a private horse ranch located in Riverside, California. “Our goal is to run at least 100 miles within the 24 hours,” Putjenter said.

In June, Putjenter will be traveling to Idaho to compete in her first half Ironman 70.3 Couer d’Alene, a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run.

When she’s not training for races, Putjenter enjoys spending time with her husband, Tyler, and their two girls, four-year-old Everly and two-year-old Ellie. She is a member of the Canyon Lake Jr. Women’s Club and recently became a member of the Pickleball Club.
