On April 6, Canyon Lake resident Adam McNaughton, a Machinist’s Mate First Class in the U.S. Navy, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for meritorious service while serving as the leading machinery planner at the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center from April 2018 to April 2021.
Petty Officer McNaughton consistently performed his duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner, displaying exceptional leadership while leading a team of 48 highly trained sailors and civilians.
As command equal opportunity manager, McNaughton led 45 members of the command resilience team through three command climate surveys and facilitated refresher trainings for 1,218 sailors. By his determination, guidance, and dedication to duty, McNaughton was awarded the medal for upholding the highest traditions of the U.S. Navy.
McNaughton, who is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the nuclear power plants on aircraft carriers, first enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2011. Since then, McNaughton has been deployed three times, including to the South China Sea and the Middle East. His current enlistment ends in 2025.
McNaughton, a Canyon Lake resident since 2004, is the son of Kellie Welty and stepson of Canyon Lake City Councilman Dale Welty.
