Canyon Lake resident Kathy Barbay was among seven Riverside County seniors honored at the Inaugural Senior Legacy Awards hosted by Riverside County Second District Supervisor Karen Spiegel.
The Inaugural Senior Legacy Awards is an ode to the Senior Inspiration Awards, a three-decade-long event hosted in the Coachella Valley. The event was created to offer appreciation and encouragement to senior citizens in the county who have dedicated countless hours to the improvement of their neighborhoods and communities.
Mayor Pro Tem Dale Welty, Councilwoman Jennifer Dain, and City Manager Nicole Dailey attended the event on behalf of the City of Canyon Lake and in support of Barbay.
Barbay has served as a volunteer in the Canyon Lake community for nearly two decades. Her volunteer work centers around seniors and the senior center.
As co-chair of the POA’s Senior Center Work Group Committee, Barbay assists with several annual senior center events, including the Holiday Boutique, New Year’s Eve Dinner-Dance, and Christmas Dinner Party.
As a member of the Sewing and Quilters Group, Barbay helps to create patriotic quilts for Canyon Lake veterans and active duty service members. The quilts are presented throughout the year and during the city’s annual Veterans Day event.
In addition to the Sewing and Quilters Group, Barbay is a member of the Woman’s Club, Mermaids of Canyon Lake, and Yacht Club. She is a former member of the Fine Arts Guild, Emergency Preparedness Committee, Travel Club, and Senior Chair Volleyball Club.
Other honorees include Don Kindred of Corona, Herbert Cirilo of Eastvale, Hugo Bustamante of Jurupa Valley, Jannlee Watson of Temescal Valley, Joyce Hohenadl of Lake Elsinore, and Samia Yousef of Norco.
