Canyon Lake resident Greg Castillo was sworn in as police captain for the City of Colton Police Department on Wednesday.
Castillo was sworn in by Chief Anthony Vega and, in a poignant moment, pinned by his father, Ron Castillo.
Castillo’s journey with the Colton Police Department began in 2005, and he has since served in various critical roles. He was promoted to lieutenant in September 2021, showcasing a career marked by dedication and versatility.
Castillo has worked in several capacities, including patrol, SWAT, and K9. He has held the positions of officer, detective, patrol sergeant, watch commander, K9 handler, SWAT operator, background investigator, and code enforcement sergeant.
In 2013, Castillo was awarded the Colton Police Department’s Lifesaving Medal for his heroic actions in saving the life of a prison corrections officer who had been shot in the head at a gas station in Colton.
In 2016, Castillo and K9 Eddie participated in the search for the terrorist suspects after the San Bernardino IRC terrorist attack.
Castillo and his wife, Canyon Lake Councilwoman Kasey Castillo, have called Canyon Lake home since 2012. Their shared commitment to public service and community engagement showcases their lasting connections to the cities they serve.
