Canyon Lake Ski Club announces 2023 scholarship application is open

The Canyon Ski Club is accepting applications for its Imre and Betsy Weil Water Ski Scholarship, a gift endowed by Imre to help support the sport of 3-event water skiing.

Named after Imre Weil, a 50-year member of the Canyon Lake Ski Club, and his wife, Betsy, the annual scholarship awards $500 to an individual or club in the Western United States.

The submission deadline is September 1, 2023. The name of the recipient will be announced on October 1.

At the time of his passing in 2020 at age of 92, Weil was the current 13 states Western Region record holder of a slalom score of 2.5 buoys at 28 mph at a rope length of 22. In 2019, the Canyon Lake Ski Club presented him with a lifetime achievement award for his years of service and friendship.

The 2022 Imre and Betsy Weil Water Ski Scholarship recipient Kendra Nathan is currently attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on an academic and waterski scholarship.
