
The Canyon Lake Ski Club awarded its $500 Imre and Betsy Weil Scholarship to the San Diego State University Ski Team. The scholarship was endowed with a gift from Weil upon his passing and established to support the sport of three-event water skiing.
The Ski Club Board said it is proud of the team’s consistent work to support three-event skiing in the Western Region, including participation at the Western Regionals and Nationals each year and their number one ranking in California for the National Collegiate Water Ski Association.
In addition to attending, participating in, and helping to officiate Canyon Lake tournaments, the SDSU Ski Team consistently recruits new skiers each year and helps them learn the sport and compete in tournaments.
Imre Weil was a member of the Canyon Lake Ski Club for more than 50 years. the longest tenure of any member. At the time of his passing at age 92, Weil was the current 13 states Western Region record holder of a slalom score of 2.5 buoys at 28 mph at a rope length of 22. In 2019, the Canyon Lake Ski Club presented Weil with a lifetime achievement award for his years of service and friendship.
