The Canyon Lake Ski Club presented member Kim Larson with its Bob Barton Award during the club’s Annual Awards Banquet on Saturday evening at the lodge.

The Bob Barton Award is presented annually to the Ski Club member who has made the greatest contribution to three-event waterskiing in the Western Region.

“It’s an honor for me to be voted by our Ski Club board as the member who made the greatest contributions at three-event skiing in the Western Region for the 2022 year,” Larson said.

Emeritus scorer and former longtime Canyon Lake resident Barbara Canfield presented Larson with the trophy. “It was special to have Barbara hand me the trophy,” Larson said. “She was my scoring mentor and helped me to perfect my abilities as a top-level scorer in our sport.

Larson served as a Western Regional Championships chief scorer in 2022 and has been appointed to score this year and in 2024.

For the past 10 years, Larson has served as a chief scorer, assistant scorer, and an appointed scorer at multiple regional and national events. She also helped to score at the collegiate level for regional and national championships when her son was in college.

To work her way up to chief scorer, Larson had to assist other scorers, pass a number of tests, and complete several clinics.

Larson has been a member of the Ski Club since 1992. Her husband, Scott, is an internationally-ranked slalom skier. Larson said she skis for fun and prefers scoring over competing.
