
Editor’s note: This article was updated to include the additional skiers who earned a medal. Twenty-one Canyon Lake skiers qualified to compete in the USA Water Ski Western Regionals, held from July 23 through July 27 at Wet Set Village in Newberry Springs, California.
Sixteen of the 21 Canyon Lake skiers who competed earned medals in one or more categories.
Standout performances came from Scott Larson, Erik Larson, Thad Epting, Brad Hartwell, Taylor Horton, Emilia Horton, Jay Fitzpatrick, Mike Kerber, Larry Nordell, Debra Sacks, Gretchen Painter, Jacob Kerber, Michael Hayes, Ed Terwilliger, Dee Johnson, and Kevin Hyatt, who all secured a spot on the podium in one or more categories.
Other notable Canyon Lake competitors include Steve Volz, John Jacobson, Scott West, Rick Jacob, and Joe Perez.

Several of the Canyon Skiers also qualified to compete at the Water Ski Nationals, set to take place from August 13 through August 17 in Arvin, California.
On Saturday, September 14, and Sunday, September 15, the Canyon Lake Ski Club will be hosting its Memorial Tournament, which pays homage to Canyon Lake water skiers who passed away.
This two-day tournament attracts skiers from across the country, including USA’s top-ranked jumpers, trickers, and slalom skiers. Skiers will be competing for their own individual scores to try to improve their national rankings.
