Canyon Lake teen Nixon Lauritzen is at the top of his game when it comes to golf. The 15-year-old recently advanced to the CIF-SS individual championships.
On June 1, Lauritzen competed against 107 golfers in the CIF Southern Section Central Regional Tournament at Redhawk Golf Course in Temecula. He was one of four Inland golfers who finished with rounds of 75 and went to a card-off to determine the final two spots. The top 20 golfers in each of the three regionals advanced to the next round of competition.
Lauritzen will compete in the CIF-SS individual championships on June 10 at the Victoria Lakes Course at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard. The top golfers will advance to the CIF state qualifier.
Lauritzen has been golfing since the age of four. He is a member of the Canyon Lake Golf Course and practices five to six days a week. He also competes in the Southern California Golf Association, the American Junior Golf Association, and the Future Champions golf tournaments. “He hopes to one day compete professionally,” his mother, Kerri Lauritzen, said.
The Temescal Canyon High School student has a 4.5 GPA and is enrolled in the engineering program. He had the highest GPA out of 650 students in the first semester of his freshman year.
“I am proud of the progress Lauritzen has made throughout the years, not only in golf but in his education,” said Bryan Carlson, Lauritzen’s golf coach and swing instructor. “He exemplifies a well-rounded high school athlete and future college athlete.”
In his spare time, Lauritzen enjoys wakeboarding, wake surfing, snowboarding, and mountain biking.
