The Canyon Lake Yacht Club held its “Bill Thomas” Spring Lake Cleanup on Saturday, May 6.
Starting at Diamond Point Park, volunteers spread out around the lake in boats and golf carts to clean up debris floating near the shoreline.
The debris was bagged and brought back to Diamond Point Park for POA pick-up and disposal.
“The Yacht Club extends a special thanks to the Tennis Club for joining in the cleanup efforts, tackling from the tennis courts to Holiday Harbor,” Commodore Ron Wilbur said.
The “Bill Thomas” Spring Lake Cleanup is named in honor of William “Bill” Thomas, the oldest member of the Canyon Lake Yacht Club. Thomas turned 95 on May 8.
As one of the founders, Thomas has been active in the club since its beginning in 1990. He served as the original purser and author of the club’s original bylaws.
The Yacht Club invites the community to participate in its next Lake Cleanup on Saturday, October 21.
The Yacht Club’s upcoming events included the “Dave Dain” Celebration Cruise and Tie-Up Party on Saturday, May 20, and the “Learn How to Drive a Boat” clinic for Canyon Lake residents ages 12 and older on Saturday, June 3, from 12 to 4 p.m. Participants do not need to be members of the Yacht Club to participate in these events.
Formed in 1990, the Yacht Club has a current membership of 150. Membership is comprised of residents of all ages and all interests. Boat ownership is not required to be a member. Annual membership is $15. For more information, visit www.canyonlakeyachtclub.com.
