The Canyon Lake Yacht Club convened on Saturday at the lakefront residence of Rob Mora and Lainie Cooney to celebrate the 41st Annual Parade of Lights. The event not only honored the Parade of Lights winners, sponsors, and volunteers with plaques but also marked the installation of the club’s 2024 board.

“The 2023 Parade of Lights is a great tribute to the hard work of co-chairs Rob Mora and Brian Oltman, who introduced some innovations and produced a stellar parade,” Commodore Ron Wilbur said. “The boats were ingenious and we were delighted to present awards to boat owners who brought bother imagination and creativity to so many remarkable floating displays.”

Wilbur thanked the outgoing board and transitioned the responsibilities to the newly installed board: Commodore Rob Mora, Vice Commodore Dave Carter, Yeoman Kat Dimpflmaier, Purser Lynette Rodriguez, and Membership Chair Gina Lee Allen. Wilbur also presented Mora with the Master in Commander’s cap, a gavel, and the club’s original burgee in a frame. symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter for the Yacht Club.

“The outgoing board did a wonderful service for the Yacht Club and community with record-breaking accomplishments,” Wilbur said. “The incoming board is a terrific group of people who bring experience to the Yacht Club and I’m proud to say that they will continue with the work we started in 2023.”

The Yacht Club was established in 1990 by Canyon Lake residents who enjoyed time on the lake. Since that time, the club has grown to more than 400 members. The club operates as a social and philanthropic club within the Canyon Lake constellation of sanctioned clubs and organizations.

The Yacht Club maintains a busy social calendar, bringing members together for dinners, sunset cruises, and other recreation. The club also gives back to the community through its student scholarship program. Boat ownership is not a requirement to join the Yacht Club.
