Fifty Canyon Lake Yacht Club members gathered Thursday evening in the Eastport Activities Building for a Stewardship Appreciation Potluck.
Several former and current members were honored for their contributions to the club and community, including Pete Delia, keeper of the club’s Green Dragon and chair of the Lake Clean-Up, Paul Hawker and Teresa Filder, creators of the club’s popular Whale Hunt event, Jim Lange, former vice commodore and chair of Parade of Lights, Chris Papavero, co-leader of the first Opening Day/Blessing of the Boats, Claude Beauchamp, former purser, and Michael Morgan for bringing in nearly $5,000 in sponsorships for the 2022 Parade of Lights.
The surprise guests and honorees of the night were Marti and Lee Norris. Lee was one of the founders of the club and the first commodore. He served as commodore three times. Marti was the first mate and a great support in the club’s early years.

“We will continue to honor those who have given their time and talents to serve the club and its contributions to our community,” Commodore Ron Wilbur said. “Club members are the backbone of any club and the Yacht Club will lead the way in recognizing and thanking them for their time and service.”
On Saturday, April 4, at 10 a.m. at Holiday Harbor, the club will be holding a Get your Boat Ready for Boating Season/Trick Out Your Boat event. All Canyon Lake boat owners are invited to attend.
This informative clinic will be led by independent service techs and representatives of prominent local marine centers who will demonstrate tips and tricks for getting boats ready for a season of fun on the water.
The Yacht Club invites everyone to join the club for fun, friends, and the enjoyment of the lake. Annual club membership is $15. Boat ownership is not required. For more information, visit www.canyonlakeyachtclub.com.
