A decorated Holiday Bay Room greeted more than 80 guests as they entered on a red-carpet walk for the Canyon Lake Yacht Club’s inaugural Commodore’s Ball.
Thursday evening’s black-tie affair included music from two bands, dinner, champagne and cocktails, elegant centerpieces and decorations, and swag bags.

“We had several people join the club virtually at the last minute so they could buy tickets and attend the Ball,” Commodore Ron Wilbur said. “That was a surprise, but apparently word got out about this formal ball and the community was ready to embrace it. The food was wonderful, the dance floor was filled with people moving to the music, and a silent auction raised over $1,500 for the club’s charitable efforts.”
After welcoming the attendees, Commodore Wilbur reminded them, “You are among the fortunate ones that will be able to say in years to come, ‘I was at the first-ever Commodore’s Ball, and what a night it was.'”
Wilbur honored several members who contributed to the evening’s success. Vice Commodore Rob Mora took the microphone to add his praise to the Club for the great year and very presented a generous gift from the 2023 Board to the Commodore. As a candidate for commodore for the club’s 2024 season, Mora also shared a bit of his vision for the next year’s Club.

Bob Burns, head of the Maui Wildfire Relief effort that the Yacht Club undertook this year, presented Wilbur with a custom, handmade yacht he made with the commodore’s business cards. The rest of the evening was spent dancing and celebrating.
Established in 1990 as a social and philanthropic club, the Yacht Club has grown to nearly 400 members. “This year, we had 44 events on our club calendar, six of which are signature events, meaning these are events that are recognized in Canyon Lake as being significant to our community,” Wilbur said. “For a $15 annual membership, that’s a pretty amazing amount of fun.”
The Yacht Club is established as a legitimate yacht club in the yachting community and has established memberships with other yachting associations, giving members entrance to 800 yacht clubs in the country.
