The Canyon Lake Yacht Club made waves with its inaugural Chili Cook-Off, held for the first time on Skipper’s Island.
Sixty-five members took part in the event, which featured 12 chili entries. To accommodate all attendees, the club provided a complimentary water taxi service, shuttling non-boater owners between Holiday Harbor Park and Skipper’s Island.

Adding to the festivities, televisions were set up on the island, broadcasting NFL games so participants could enjoy both the cook-off and their favorite Sunday football action.
The competition was fierce, with several teams vying for the top spot. Under the team name Blue Rabbit Marina, Sue and Brett Law, Cathy and Dan Lekawa, and Dawna and Rick Thibodeau claimed first place.
Second place went to the Young Old People’s Club, represented by Judy and Pete Dorazio and Cindy Silk-Gonzales.
Rounding out the top three was Teri Cherry, who came in third place.
Karl Klittich, Karin and Greg Cassidy, Trisha and Craig Brown, and Marlee and Travis Rasmussen received honorable mentions.
“What a fantastic weekend we had at the inaugural Chili Cook-Off on Skipper’s Island,” Commodore Rob Mora said. “To all who attended and participated, thank you for making it such a memorable event. We hope you had as much fun as we did!”
