The Canyon Lake Yacht Club has recognized Paul Hawker as its Deckhand of the Month. The club’s Deckhand of the Month program aims at recognizing members who consistently go above and beyond in guiding the club toward its mission.
A member of the Yacht Club for six years, Hawker is one of the club’s biggest supporters. He is always among the first to propose new ideas for club activities. Hawker rarely misses a club owner and is typically accompanied by his loyal American black lab, Chewy, who shares his love for boating,
In July, Hawker was an enthusiastic participant in both the Pirates and Wenches and Red Solo Cup cruises.
When Commodore Rob Mora suggested creating a lake map featuring historical facts and landmarks, Hawker was quick to volunteer. Alongside other captains, he helped chart the waters and craft the story of Canyon Lake, contributing to a new initiative to offer cruises that educate residents and their friends about our lake and its rich history. These cruises, starting in September, will be led by Hawker.
Originally from Michigan, Hawker relocated to California at the age of 30 for a career opportunity with Johnson & Johnson, where he held various senior executive sales positions within the ophthalmic surgical division.
After a successful 10-year tenure, Hawker decided to embark on a new adventure. He purchased and served as CEO of a large ink printing business, which flourished under his leadership and secured numerous contracts, including with the U.S. government.
After extensive travels and living in both Orange County and San Diego County, Hawker retired and found his forever home in Canyon Lake in 2017. His motto, “Loving retirement on the lake,” encapsulates his connection to the community.
Hawker’s passion for Canyon Lake is evident through his active involvement in the community. For the past three years, Hawker has been responsible for guiding Canyon Lake Guild’s tribute bands on lake tours. His advocacy for additional Pickleball courts was instrumental in the expansion to six courts, now serving about 600 members.
“The CLYC is incredibly fortunate to have Paul as not only a member but also a driving force behind our club’s innovation,” Commodor Mora said. “We are deeply grateful for everything Paul contributes to both the club and the larger community.”
In appreciation of the contributions Hawker has made to the Yacht Club, the club’s board members treated him to a special dinner at the lodge and presented him with an anchor trophy.
