The Canyon Lake Yacht Club recently added its second international burgee to its collection, marking the 29th burgee the club has collected from other yacht clubs across the U.S. and abroad.
During a recent trip to Oslo, Norway, Canyon Lake Yacht Club member Kathy Wood exchanged a Canyon Lake Yacht Club burgee with one from the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club (Kongelig Norse Seilforening, KNS).
Founded in 1883, the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club is Norway’s largest sailing yacht club, accommodating some 4,000 members.
In June, the Canyon Lake Yacht Club announced the launch of its burgee exchange challenge, which offers special recognition to members who collect the most burgees from other yacht clubs both domestically and internationally.
Members participating in the burgee exchange challenge are asked to purchase a Canyon Lake Yacht Club burgee and exchange it for another one from another club, provided that the club does not already have a Canyon Lake burgee. Each exchange is documented with a photo. The member who has collected the most burgees at the end of the challenge will receive a special gift, recognition, a photo, and a feature on the club’s website.
The Canyon Lake Yacht Club was established in 1990 by residents who enjoyed time on the lake. The club maintains a busy social calendar, bringing members together for dinners, sunset cruises, and other recreation. The club also hosts Canyon Lake’s iconic Parade of Lights holiday boat parade and gives back to the community through its student scholarship program.
