The community is invited to attend Canyon Lake’s 10th Annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 4, at the fire station, 28730 Vacation Dr.
This year’s national theme is, “Pray fervently in righteousness and avail much,” James 5:16B
Donuts, coffee, and juice will be served at 9:30 a.m. The program will start at 10 a.m.
Emceed by Mayor Jeremy Smith, the program includes prayer and music. Patriotic music will be presented by DJ Mike Shroyer, harpist Kylene Evans, and vocalist Aprile McKinnon. This year’s speaker will be Riverside County District 2 Supervisor Karen Spiegel.
The program will begin with the presentation of colors by the Elsinore High School Flying Tigers Junior ROTC Color Guard under the direction of Major Charles Ruhl. LEUSD Trustee Dr. Jennette Vanderpool will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
EVMWD Director Darcy Burke will present the prayer for unity. Pastor Mike Chong Perkinson of Lamb’s Fellowship will present the prayer for the country. Pastor Dave Dick of Canyon Lake Community Church will present the prayer for the state. Councilman Mark Terry will present the prayer for the city.
Veteran Michelle Wynn will present the prayer for the military and veterans. Canyon Lake Fire Engineer Chico Sanchez will present the prayer for the first responders.
Pastor Pete Van Dyke of Canyon Lake Community Church will present the prayer for missionaries. Pastor Thor Ramsey will present the prayer for those who have lost loved ones during the past year. Derek Singer of Canyon Lake Community Church will present the prayer for seniors and families.
Brian Crawford of Chosen People Ministries will present the prayer for the State of Israel and the Misha Berra.
Pastor Paul Krueger of New Hope Community Church will present the prayer for at-risk youth and their families. The prayer for children will be delivered by the tiny but mighty students of the Canyon Lake Community Church Preschool, under the direction of preschool Director Brittany Youngquist.
The National Day of Prayer has been celebrated in the U.S. since 1952, by joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan designated the first Thursday of May as the National Day of Prayer.
