Participants are encouraged to decorate their bikes, scooters, wagons, and strollers in festive red, white, and blue. Walkers and runners are also welcome.

The festivities begin at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Roller home at 30525 Longhorn Drive. A traditional group photo will be taken at 8:45 a.m., followed by the bike ride at 9 a.m.

Attendees are welcome to bring easy-to-serve breakfast items such as donuts, pastries, boxed juices, boxed milk, and canned beverages to share with fellow participants prior to group photo. A table will be set up for these items.

The bike ride will start promptly at 9 a.m., departing from Longhorn Drive and traveling through Happy Camp. From there, participants will travel back to Longhorn Drive, turn right on Big Rand Road, and make their way down Whirlaway Court to Moonstone Beach, where the ride will conclude.

This annual tradition began in 2004 when longtime Canyon Lake residents Karen and Taz Waller welcomed a small group of neighborhood children and parents to their Longhorn Drive home for breakfast and a bike ride through the community on the morning of July 4.

The Wallers hosted the event for 14 years before relocating to Colorado in 2018. Since then, Tina and Milton Roller, who purchased the home, have proudly continued the tradition, helping it grow into one of Canyon Lake’s most cherished Independence Day celebrations.

What started as a small neighborhood gathering has evolved into a community-wide event that now attracts more than 100 participants each year, creating lasting memories while celebrating the nation’s birthday and the strong sense of community that makes Canyon Lake unique.
