Canyon Lake’s lone tattoo shop, American Ink House Tattoo Co., is under new ownership. The new owner, Carl Mata, took over on May 1 and renamed the business American Tradition Tattoo Co.

Mata brings 26 years of experience as a licensed artist to his new venture. He opened his first tattoo shop, Old Traditions Tattoo Parlor, in 1999 in San Jacinto. He currently employs three tattoo artists and one piercer.

“We are excited to be a part of the Canyon Lake community and bring our 25 years of experience and award-winning tattoo artists to the area,” Mata said.

Along with the name change, Mata said he revamped the decor and “vibe” to create a more family-friendly atmosphere.

Although Mata resides in San Jacinto, he is no stranger to Canyon Lake. “My mother-in-law resided in Canyon Lake for more than 10 years.,” he said. Mata has fond memories of his time at his mother-in-law’s lakefront home in Canyon Lake.

Located in the Canyon Lake Towne Center at 31580 Railroad Canyon Rd., American Tradition Tattoo Co. offers tattoos, body piercings, permanent makeup, and makeup reconstruction. They are open seven days a week from 12 to 10 p.m. and welcome walk-ins. To book an appointment, call 951-309-3433.
