The Canyon Lake City Council on Wednesday adopted Resolution 2022-11, approving a Special Revenue Fund for the Canyon Lake Fire Department.
The fire department would like to have the ability to raise funds by selling items such as T-shirts and hats. Revenues will be used for items and equipment the personnel would like to have at the fire station.
As the fire department is a brand new department, no account or fund currently exists for such activities. Having a separate, dedicated fund will allow for simple accounting of monies raised and spent in this manner. Proceeds from the sale of the merchandise will be deposited into this fund.
Interest income will be allocated annually to this fund based on its monthly cash balance during the fiscal year. Disbursements made from this fund will be subject to the city’s purchasing procedures.
The council approved providing a short-term advance, approximately $5,000, from the General Fund to the new fund. This will allow the fire department to purchase the various merchandise it plans to sell. The short-term advance will be repaid to the General Fund as funds are received from the sale of the merchandise.
