City enters into cooperative agreement with county for fire services

The Canyon Lake City Council authorized the city manager to enter into a one-year cooperative agreement for fire protection, fire prevention, rescue, fire marshal, and medical emergency services with the County of Riverside. The city’s current agreement with the county expires on June 20, 2020.

The proposed agreement would cover the 2020/2021 fiscal year, beginning July 1, 2020, and ending June 30, 2021. The estimated cost for the 2020/2021 fiscal year is $2,214,207.

While the city is concerned by the alarming rate at which the county has been increasing the costs charged to the city for providing fire protection services, time is needed to find a viable solution to this challenge. The city intends to explore cost-saving options for future fiscal years.
