The City of Canyon Lake invited Canyon Lake high school seniors to enter its essay contest for an opportunity to win a $1,500 scholarship.
Students were required to describe in 500 to 750 words how living in Canyon Lake has made an impact on them and how they would improve Canyon Lake for future generations.
The city received six entries. Jesse Rupe was announced as the winner during Wednesday’s council meeting.
Rupe expressed his appreciation to the city council and the City of Canyon Lake. “This lake definitely has made me who I am today and I can’t thank any of you enough, especially the city itself for giving me all the safety and opportunities to grow as a person,” Rupe said. Because of that, Rupe said that when he sets off to accomplish his engineering goals, he wants to bring the values Canyon Lake has taught him to more communities across this area and the globe. His future plans are to start his own tech and engineering companies.
“This council has really embraced our youth by doing our internship program and getting our youth involved,” Mayor Jeremy Smith said.
