City of Canyon Lake offers new Internship Program

The City of Canyon Lake is offering a new Internship Program and is seeking motivated college students studying government, politics, business, or law enforcement to join its team. There is one position available in the Code Enforcement Department and three positions available in the Administration Office.

Interns will be expected to work 10 to 12 hours per week for 10 weeks. Interns must work at least two days per week for at least three hours each day. Schedules can be flexible to accommodate school and work schedules.

The position will involve a wide range of duties. Examples of duties include:

  • Staff Support – Interns will serve as support staff for city administration, code enforcement, and the city hall front desk. This will include but is not limited to administrative support, clerical assistance, policy development, and interaction with the public. Interns will work in a variety of departments and capacities, which will allow them to gain broad experience in municipal government.
  • Special Projects – In conjunction with the city manager, management analyst, city clerk, and other administrative staff, interns will be asked to help with priority projects. These projects will cover a wide variety of city functions, such as economic development, public safety, and public outreach. Interns are welcome and encouraged to share topics of interest and to work on those topics for the benefit of the city. Interns excelling in the program may be given the opportunity to draft a staff report and present the item at a city council meeting.
  • Internship Curriculum – Interns will have a curriculum of assignments that they will work on throughout the duration of the internship. These assignments will range from research reports to reading academic publications. All interns will be required to complete an overarching project that they will present to staff at the completion of their term.
