The City of Menifee will commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11 with a Day of Remembrance Ceremony on Saturday, September 11, at 6 p.m. at Central Park, 30268 Civic Plaza Dr.
This event will reflect on the tragic events that took place on September 11, 2001, and pay tribute to the lives lost. The evening will include guest speakers, special presentations, and visual tributes.
“As a community, we continue to come together to honor the memory of the lives that were lost and honor the first responders who provided critical aid on that day,” Community Services Director Jonathan Nicks said. “With this event being in person, we are grateful for the opportunity to add some historical elements for younger generations to learn about the importance of this day in history.”
Flags will be displayed as a representation of the lives lost and historical information will be displayed throughout the walkway of the event venue. Residents can get involved by assisting in placing flags on the field prior to the event.
During the event, attendees will have an opportunity to write a thank you card to the New York City Police Department, New York City Fire Department, Port Authority of New York, and New Jersey Police Department, who all provided aid on September 11, 2001. Attendees will also have an opportunity to decorate luminary bags and place them throughout Central Park to pay tribute to the lives lost in this tragic event.
The night will end with two spotlights cast into the sky to represent the twin towers.
