City of Menifee to host free Community Emergency Response Training courses

In coordination with the County of Riverside Emergency Management Department, the City of Menifee will be offering free Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) Basic Training courses during the months of March and April.

The CERT Basic Training course will cover several key topics including terrorism awareness, disaster psychology, light search and rescue, emergency communications, team organization, disaster drill and simulation, disaster preparedness, medical operations and triage, fire safety and suppression, hazard materials awareness, damage assessment, and utility control.

Residents will have the option of attending one of three sessions:

  • Session One: Friday, March 4, through Sunday, March 6
  • Session Two: Friday, March 11, through Sunday, March 13
  • Session Three: Friday, April 1, through Sunday, April 3

All sessions will take place on Fridays from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants must be 18 years or older and attend all three training days to receive a CERT certificate of completion.

The CERT program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace during a disaster or emergency when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
