Murrieta Mayor Scott Vinton recently submitted his formal resignation from his role on the Murrieta City Council, effective December 21. Mayor Vinton was first elected to represent District 5 in November 2018. His city council term ends in December 2022.

Pursuant to California Government Code 36512, within 60 days from the commencement of the vacancy, the city council must fill the vacancy either by appointment or by calling a special election.

At the September 21 city council meeting, the council voted to fill the vacancy through an appointment process. The city will begin accepting applications for the vacancy on September 27.

“Mayor Vinton has represented Murrieta during a challenging period and he has done so with compassion and care for this community,” City Manager Kim Summers said. “On behalf of the City of Murrieta team, we thank him for his service and wish him the best with his upcoming move.”
