C.L.E.A.R. Foundation to hold Jr. Lifeguard tryouts for Canyon Lake kids

In collaboration with California State Parks, the Canyon Lake Enrichment Activities and Recreation (C.L.E.A.R.) Foundation will be hosting Jr. Lifeguards tryouts for this summer’s Jr. Lifeguards Program at Lake Perris. The program is for kids aged eight to 15. Returning Jr. Lifeguards do not need to try out.

Tryouts will be held on Saturday, April 20, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the lodge pool. A parent orientation will follow at 10 p.m.

Participants must be able to swim 100 yards in under three minutes and tread water for two minutes. Those who meet the qualifications will be invited to enroll in the program at Lake Perris. Bus transportation to Lake Perris will be provided by the City of Canyon Lake.

The two-week Jr. Lifeguards Program at Lake Perris will be held from June 17 through June 28 at Lake Perris. Sessions will be held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is $260, with a $20 discount for siblings. A rash guard and patch are included. Participants will be required to wear navy board shorts (boys) and a black or blue one-piece swimsuit (girls), which will be available for purchase at the time of enrollment. Optional T-shirts and hoodies will also be available.

The program teaches kids the basics of first aid and CPR, aquatic safety, various water rescue techniques, and the natural and cultural resources the California State Parks system offers.

The program emphasizes teamwork, leadership, and aquatic safety while introducing young people to safe marine and aquatic recreation opportunities. The program is designed to provide quality water safety education while improving young people’s physical conditioning, their understanding and respect for the environment, and their respect for themselves, their parents, and their peers.
