An armed domestic violence suspect was fatally shot by police when they made a forced entry into an apartment after hearing signs of distress with no answer at the front door, the Murrieta Police Department announced on Thursday.
On January 29 at approximately 11:45 p.m., the Murrieta Police Department received a 911 call reporting a domestic violence incident occurring inside an apartment at the Pacific Landing Apartments, located at 36125 Creighton Ave. in the City of Murrieta.
According to the Murrieta Police Department, officers arrived at approximately 11:51 p.m. and made a forced entry into the apartment after hearing signs of distress with no answer at the front door.
Upon entry, officers encountered a male armed with a handgun and an officer-involved shooting occurred. The male resident was struck by gunfire. No officers were injured during the incident.
Officers rendered medical aid to the 57-year-old male until paramedics arrived and transported him to Inland Valley Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The identities of the suspect and officers involved were not released. The officers were placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Force Investigation Detail (FID) responded to take the lead on investigating the officer-involved shooting, assisted by Murrieta Police Detectives.
