The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Southwest Station will be conducting a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Checkpoint on Friday, July 25, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. at an undisclosed location within the City of Temecula. Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests.
During the checkpoint, officers will look for signs of drivers under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, as well as checking for proper licensing.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Deputy Eastwood said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol; some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving.
Drivers charged with driving under the influence face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and a suspended license.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
